Holiday Entitlement: 20 days (FTE) plus bank holidays and Christmas closure, length of service increments.

Purpose of job

As our Employability Manager you will be responsible for the successful delivery of our employability programme, featuring a new, Lottery Funded, employability project. The project is a significant area of work for People First and will support 200 people over the next 3 years with learning difficulties and or autism into employment opportunities.

You will be externally facing as you develop critical relationships with employers and provide overall leadership for the Employability Team.

This role is rooted in relationship-building and entrepreneurialism; you will engage with employers, sponsors and supporters to create new opportunities, to position People First to ensure we provide placements and progression routes for our learners.

The Department

The Employability team is a new team that will work closely with People First’s Education Team and Enterprise Team.

The team believes that in order to get people into paid, permanent work, we need to take an approach which makes employers a key partner, putting them at the heart of the project and its learning.

The Employability Team has four core aims:

  • To ensure that People First offer a range of rewarding pathways into work for people with learning difficulties and/or autism
  • To engage with employers to develop placements and to support employers to embed inclusive practice
  • To support learner to engage with these opportunities and to progress into employment
  • To generate wider support for People First’s employability work in the form of corporate sponsorship.

The post-holder will also be responsible for achieving all Key Performance Indicators set by our funders; this includes attracting match-funding and supporting 200 people into paid work within 3 years.

We are seeking a candidate who has a proven track record of working with the private sector to create meaningful and lasting relationships of mutual benefit.

You will have experience and skills that enable you to confidently:

  • Build influential relationships with potential employers, identifying appropriate paid, permanent work within their business.
  • Create sponsorship packages and development opportunities. Securing sustainable income streams from the private sector, local authority and other funders.
  • Be responsible for delivering all project outcomes on time and in budget.

  • Demonstrable experience of working with the private sector and being part of influential networking groups.

  • People and/or project management experience.

Duties will include:

Leadership and Management:
  • Managing a team of job coaches, with the support of a team leader as they support learners on placement and represent People First
  • Providing line management to your team including 1:1s, appraisals and target setting
  • Role modelling professional and enthusiastic approaches to working
  • Establishing clear expectations for your team; leading with purpose and drive
  • Contributing to People First’s wider ‘Management Team’; taking a role in cross-organisation work streams and events and representing your team in cross-organisation forums.
Delivery and Performance:
  • Achieving all Key Performance Indicators set by external funders and People First’s Senior Leadership Team.
  • Mobilising your team to ensure that the needs of learners, and the needs of employers, are met.
  • Ensuring the project has a steady throughput of suitable participants.
  • Facilitating and reporting to People First’s Employability Steering Group, made up of employers, stakeholders and funders, providing assurance.
  • Creating, embedding and evaluating action plans and project plans that drive activity and deliver quality outcomes.
Growth and development
  • Applying an experienced, relationship management approach, you will secure match funding for our employability project and identify new income opportunities to ensure financial stability for the services you operate
  • Developing a range of sponsorship packages, working with local employers to secure support and additional funding
  • Actively designing the delivery of the employability project and wider employability services
  • Scoping future developments in new areas and new industries, all designed to enhance our employability offer
Networking and relationships
  • Outwardly-facing, developing new relationships with employers to generate interest in our work, creating new placement opportunities, developing employment routes
  • Actively engaging with private-sector networks, building meaningful and mutually beneficial professional relationships.
  • Creating connections with third sector partners, stakeholders such as DWP and local authority figures to raise awareness of your team’s work.
  • Maintaining excellent working relationships with People First’s Education Manager and Enterprise Manager, working together to identify opportunities, drive excellent practice and supportive approaches
Reporting and communication
  • Working with your Senior Manager, developing quality and performance indicators to ensure robust reporting
  • Developing relationships with key funders, reporting activity and ensuring that funders are informed of the work of your team
  • Establishing a strong working relationship with People First’s Communications Team, working together to represent employability, to generate interest and ensure engagement

Other Duties

  • Evening and weekend working may be required.
