From Monday the 18th of May, across the UK, events, activities and campaigns are taking place to raise awareness of, and destigmatize mental health. It’s Mental Health Awareness Week 2020. And People First are proud to be getting involved.
At a time of changed routines where we’re seeing few people face-to-face, promoting and talking about positive mental health is so very important. With this in mind, our time to change champions and staff wellbeing group have come together -digitally- to plan a series of activities to help us promote mental health awareness.
From wearing green (the international colour of mental health), to a virtual coffee morning, and encouraging acts of kindness: Team People First, our staff and learners, are doing our bit for this year’s awareness week.
Beginning on Monday the 18th of May, we’ll be using social media to raise awareness; we’ll be sharing selfies of our team in their green fashion, and sharing tips and conversation starters on this year’s awareness week theme: kindness.
On Wednesday we’re adapting our planned coffee morning in the context of home working/social distancing. We’re hosting our first virtual coffee morning for our staff. Our team will take to their webcams to share an hour of conversation and warm beverages during which we’ll discuss mental health and the power of kindness.
Throughout the week we will be promoting the power of small acts of kindness. Our champions have put together a kindness pledge that contains quick and easy ideas for how our team and anyone who follows us on social media can squeeze a quick act of kindness into their day. Kindness can change a day and change a life and that’s what we’re championing.
We’re proud to be supporting Mental Health Awareness Week and we’re ready to shout out and spread the word for such an important and timely cause.
