Marras in Maryport: Youth projects head to Maryport

Each and every month our Youth Projects team run interactive and dynamic activities for young people in Cumbria. From digital experiences to physical experiences. From exploring the world of coding to exploring locations across the Lake District. Each activity is an opportunity for young people to develop skills and confidence, whilst having bags of fun.

Among July's activities, our groups took a jam-packed trip to Maryport. Here's what happened. 👇

To round off July we were joined by young people from both North and West Cumbria for a day at the seaside town of Maryport.

We started the day off on a high, at the amazing Clip N Climb. Our young people listened attentively to the safety information given by centre staff and we all helped each other to get our harnesses on. Afterwards, we were let loose on the walls. Our young people showed great self-advocacy skills and independence when making choices around which walls to ascend.

Some of the walls proved to be quite challenging but our young people tackled these confidently and with enthusiasm.

In typical West-Cumbrian fashion we had a rainy picnic by the harbour, however we did not let it dampen our spirits.

Afterwards, we explored the mysterious underwater world at the Maryport Aquarium. It proved to be an interesting sensory experience with darkened rooms with lighted tanks, and a wave machine that entertained everyone as it came rushing into one of the tanks. We learned new facts, took photos, and met new sea creatures we hadn’t seen before.

We also said hello to the rays who waved hello back!

To conclude the day, we tested our putting skills at crazy golf getting a little competitive and fully exhausting ourselves after a fun-filled day. Overall, we had a fantastic day and a big thanks to all who attended.
