David has had the privilege of leading People First for over 24 years. Over this time, he has seen first hand how the organisation has grown but maintained its core values: to support people to lead their lives the way they choose.
David, never shy of working alongside his staff to support and encourage, recently began working with the self advocacy groups in West Cumbria. Being able to connect back with where David began his career at People First, has been a wonderful reminder of the importance of grassroots advocacy and how it truly can save lives.
From the start of her career, Kellie has understood the importance of speaking up for yourself, your rights and live the way you wish to. Throughout her tireless work as an advocate, she has seen first-hand the impact that the simple freedom of living ones life the way one chooses can have, as well as the impact when others try to take these rights away.
As part of the leadership team at People First, Kellie brings her compassionate, empathetic and infectious spirit across the organisation to support our customers across the North of England to live their lives to the fullest.
Outside of work, Kellie's fearless nature is undiminished; especially when she is spending some quality time with her family.
As a proud Mancunian, with a background in finance (and who knew an expert in the production and processing of pork), Steve joined People First in 2023. Since then, Steve has been instrumental in refining process and procedures to ensure People First continues to provide life changing services for years to come. Throughout his career, a driving force for Steve has been that each piece of work he carries out, no matter how big or small, makes a positive difference for others.
You might be able to take Steve out of his hometown, but you can't take his hometown out of Steve; a loud and proud supporter of Manchester City, he can often be found cheering alongside Moochester and Moonbeam no matter the day.
Annette has a background in Human Resources and has worked in a variety of organisations in different roles. She has done many different things, but people are always at the heart of everything she does. She is passionate about equality and fairness and never afraid to speak up to ensure people’s rights stay protected, their voices are heard, and everyone is treated with kindness and respect.
Claire, a passionate advocate who constantly works towards helping and empowering others, is an Independent Advocate in Cumbria. Claire is always looking forward to meeting with her clients across the county, getting to know them and finding out how she can best support them with their challenges.
Describing her role in 3 words, she said: Challenging, important and rewarding' but despite this, Clare loves her time with her family too. Whether it's walking the dog, seeing her kids or just spending time with the family, Claire loves it all.
As part of the Advocacy Hub, we are the first point of contact for any referrals that come in and provide essential over the phone support to clients, as well as signposting to relevant organisations.

Ellie is a qualified advocate who has lots of experience working alongside people to ensure that they are at the heart of all decisions involving them. With an educational background in human rights, she is passionate about promoting the equality of every person. Her experience and knowledge will ensure that she can help you understand your rights and options, and support you to have your voice heard.
Jan has worked for over 25 years supporting and advocating for families during their most difficult times following life changing events and trauma, this alongside her own personal experiences of maternity care has given her the skills and passion to offer compassionate support to families with the determination to ensure that all individuals are respected, listened to, heard, and their wishes acted upon.
Asking Kleanth to describe himself in 10 words he said; "Always busy little bee helping people in the community". These words couldn't be more accurate. Kleanth is a passionate NHS Complaints Advocate in South Cumbria, listening to advocacy customer and exploring options and resolutions.
In a previous career as an Interpreter, it's no wonder Kleanth loves to travel, dusting off the cobwebs of his linguistic skills and embracing new cultures and people.
Passionate, upbeat, friendly and approachable. These are just some of the wonderful words used to describe Megan. Megan began working at People First within the Education team, working on the front line with our learners as a Job Coach. She later transferred to the Advocacy team, working with clients across Cumberland. This rewarding role, allows Megan to come alongside them to support them through the challenges they are facing and make sure that their voices are heard and their choices respected.
In her down time, Megan can often be found cooking up a new delicious dish to share with friends or working out at her local gym.
I am an advocate based in Teesside. I listen to my customers and help them share their wishes with others, whilst making sure their human rights are met.
Firefighter turned Advocate, Sue is based in Teesside where she supports customers with their NHS complaints. Conscientious and caring, Sue always looks forwards to whatever a new work day brings and how she can best support a client and their case. Out of hours, Sue is a lover of all things outdoors; whether its camping, country walks or even an alluring adventure on her Harley Davidson motorbike.
Team Leader by day, gardener, crafter and parent by night, Amanda leads the Marketing and Communications team here at People First. Describing her role in 3 words 'creative, collaborative and chaos' Amanda is known to thrive under the unpredictability of each new day.

Kate is the office guru and Business Manager. Constantly diving into each day; supporting staff, trustees and customers alike, all the whilst carrying a bucket load of enthusiasm, dedication and style.
In her down time, her style can sometimes be tested by part-time puppy and part-time menace, Paddy. Despite this, travel is a love of Kate's (when she's not supervising Paddy), having spent 3 years on Australia's Gold Coast.
Lydia, our in-house creative wiz with a flair for design style, always brings a ray of sunshine to the Carlisle office – and not least because her favourite colour is yellow! Always bright and smiling, Lydia works to support the various teams in People First with a range of digital marketing projects. When not at work, Lydia can be found exploring the Scottish landscapes or busy creating fabric masterpieces on her loom. And when it comes to scones, it’s always jam first then cream.
The Training Queen at People First, it's no wonder Rachael began her career as a Primary School Teacher; she loves learning, and sharing knowledge with others. Whether it's fun quirky facts no-one else knows to vital education for staff and customers to keep everyone who works with People First safe and well.
Rachael is a secret (not so secret anymore) crafter. From sewing, diamond art... even mandala rock painting! Who knows what hobby she'll learn next...
Sarah is a constant ray of sunshine on a gloomy day (often the case with classic cumbrian weather). Her easy going personality and atmosphere of fun she brings with her has made her the official office cheerleader.

This kind, friendly and conscientious lady throws the same attitude into her personal time where she can often be found riding her horse along the sea front or spending quality time with her charming canine.
Fun, outgoing and one of the kindest souls at People First, Gary is People First's Independent Living Coordinator Manager. Beginning at People First as an Independent Living Coordinator, Gary knows firsthand the impact his team have to the clients they work with across Cumbria. With no day ever the same, Gary enjoys the prospect of new challenges that come along and how he and his team can overcome them together.
Gary can often be found up the fells of the eden valley or up the hills that form the Lake District. We're waiting to hear if he's conquered the Wainwrights and if so how many times?!
In another life, Isla spent her days as a racehorse groom and rider for over 10 years. Fast forward to today, she is an Independent Living Coordinator at People First. Working in a supportive team, unified and driven towards the same goal of helping every Direct Payments customer that comes through the door.
Isla hasn't left her animals roots completely however, spending down time either paddle boarding with her rescue dog or even taking on dog agility competitions.
Baking extraordinaire off the clock, dedicated Payroll Officer on the clock, Kinga joined People First is 2023. Working alongside her fellow Payroll team, Kinga is always on hand to support clients when they have queries with their Personal Health Budgets or Managed Accounts. Despite her love of working under pressure, there's still nothing quite like the perfect recipe of going to the beach mixed with reading a good book.
Nicola greets everyone with such a warm smile and bubbly personality. She began at People First as the Receptionist at the People First Conference Centre, and has since moved to the Direct Payments team. Throughout her time here, she loves being busy and having a lil' bit of fun along the way. But most of all, the biggest reward of her role is the sense of purpose it brings and being surrounded by caring and supportive team members along the way.
Our always smiling Sara is an Independent Living Coordinator at People First. Describing herself in 5 words Sara is: Happy, friendly, hard working and caring. We couldn't agree more! On a day to day basis, Sara is supporting customers throughout the Eden area set up and maintain their Direct Payments. Off the clock, you'll find her pottering in the garden or cooking up some scrumptious delights.
I started working as a sessional worker during the Covid pandemic when I worked on the 'Keeping People Connected' project. Since then, I have provided support such as admin for LeDeR meetings and worked on several easy-read projects. I'm currently working as a temporary assessor on the Best Life programme.
Also known as the King of the Conference Centre, Luke has worked within the hospitality industry since the age of 16. The magic of his role can be found in the unpredictability of each day and the love of bringing the best out of his team, both aspects drive Luke.
When you come to the People First Conference Centre, you'll certainly bump into Paul, whether he's picking apples, working with volunteers and learners to do some building maintenance, or doing morning drop offs of food up to the cafe. With his years of experience in different industries, we can always rely on Paul to know the answer!
I am a Chef in Riverbank Kitchen. I prepare homemade fresh produce for the cafe in the cancer unit at the Cumberland infirmary and riverside cafe at the Conference Centre, we also provide soup and sandwiches for the chemotherapy patients. I also work with learners in the kitchen giving them the help and support and skills they need.
Caitlin is a Psychology graduate, who has always been drive to make a difference no matter how big or small, and in whatever way she can. Using her university experience, Caitlin works tirelessly crafting each report Healthwatch Cumberland produces using the invaluable information and experiences from her team of Engagement Officers. Caitlin loves the variability of each report she writes, being able to research into the different themes and always learn about something new within the health and social care system.
Caitlin loves walking with her A.D.O.R.ABLE sausage dog, Dexter, in the Lake District or popping along to her local gym (don't worry Dexter stays home on these occasions to catch up on some much needed sleep)!
Chloe, also known as the lady in pink is Healthwatch Cumberlands Engagement Team Leader. Her understanding of connection, relationship and community, and the power these elements have together has been a constant drive for Chloe.
Working previously in recovery services, Chloe wholeheartedly believes that there is always hope and recovery is always possible, but it must be a group effort. Whether she is out on the streets, speaking to members of the local community, or engaging with system works, Chloe is always listening, and advocating for those in Cumberland who feel unheard.
I am the Volunteer Co-ordinator and work with all the teams across Cumbria and am responsible for recruiting and training new volunteers, matching volunteers to opportunities that suit their skills and keeping volunteers informed.
With 23 years of experience working in the NHS, this experience has rooted within her the importance of communities she lives and works in, to have the health and care services that serve that community. Today, as Healthwatch Cumberland Manager, Sally uses her experience to drive forward change across Cumberland directed by the communities who are sharing their experiences.

Tea-liker, cat lover and textiles extraordinaire. Suzannah joined Healthwatch Cumberland in June 2024. Her creative, enthusiastic and inquisitive nature makes Suzannah perfect in speaking to members of the public about their experiences and promoting the valuable work that Healthwatch do each day.
Whilst juggling the wonderful world of comms, Suzannah is also working on her Textiles degree with the Open University. The team love hearing about her latest woven creations using the most un-expecting objects!
Let's introduce the bubbly, enthusiastic and hardworking Cora Dixon. Cora has been an asset from day one to the Healthwatch Lancashire team; especially when it comes to building their brand presence within the community. Since graduating from university, she entered into the world of comms, specialising in digital marketing and social media.
Cora is well-known in Lancashire exploring new food restaurants that enter onto the scene and sharing the delights on her instagram account @lancashirefoodspots. Check her out!
Dawn joined Healthwatch back in 2022. From day one she has taken the lead in growing our amazing community of volunteers. From learning new skills, making new friends and being able to give something back to your community; these qualities are not only what Dawn loved about this opportunity with Healthwatch Lancashire, but to also share awareness of the benefits of volunteering for your local Healthwatch.
Emmy has always been driven to support the public. In her previous roles including being Deputy Manager at SENCo, she understands the importance of building relationships with people from all walks of life. In Emmy's own words; "The knowledge of making a positive impact is what it's all about" captures her passion perfectly.
A proud Prestonian, Jodie joined the team in 2022 as our Engagement Team Leader before becoming out Healthwatch Lancashire Manager. Having previously worked as Police Officer, Jodie is all about working with the public for the public.

Having working for a period of time as a Nurse, Louise developed a passion for healthcare for both those who receive care and those who deliver it. Being able to use her experience as a nurse to help guide her as an Engagement Officer at Healthwatch Lancashire has allowed Louise to dive deeper into the mission throughout Lancashire, listening to experiences shared of local services and advocating for change to be created.

Susan loves being out in the amazing communities across Lancashire in her role as Senior Engagement Officer. Speaking to the public, listening and understanding their experiences, but most of all being able to champion their views to make systematic change to health and social care services across the length and breadth of Lancashire. She says; "Knowing that what we do actually makes a real difference fuels me each day to keep doing what Healthwatch is here to do."
Working 25 years as a Garden Designer, it's no wonder that Susan loves being in the great outdoors. Whether it's enjoying her own garden, embracing the natural, rugged terrain of rural Lancashire or even hugging a tree or two.
Lisa thrives on the fact that no two days are the same at Healthwatch Westmorland and Furness. One day she may be out in the community, meeting people and hearing their experiences. Day two Lisa may meeting with people who work and shape local health and social care services, sharing the views of people, and the experience they have gone through.
Lisa used to work in the education system for fourteen years and over that time supported autistic adults and adults with a learning disability. She saw first-hand the impact positive experiences and the right support can provide for everyone but especially for those in seldom heard groups.
Lisa shared; "I find it so satisfying when we make an impact on the health and care system in our area."
I work with Adults and Young People with learning difficulties/Autism. I support Self-advocacy groups and youth sessions. I help people live their best Life and become strong Self-Advocates
James is a people person through and through. Since day one at People First, James instantly is able to connect with those around him, especially to members within the Lancashire self advocacy groups who he works closely alongside. For James, the groups aren't just a meeting space, but a community that gather together, support one another, and empower one another no matter what members are facing in their day to day life.
James is a man who never stops moving. Whether that's going for a walk with friends or listening to some bangin' hits whilst out on one of his weekly runs. We wonder what's on his playlist this week?
When Sam was asked to describe her role in 3 words, she chose 'exciting, fun, fulfilling' and it's no wonder when Sam, her team and the young people of People First youth groups get together. Sam's work has always been about empowering young people to gain confidence, start advocating for themselves and feel safe to not be afraid to show their silly side. Whether it's with a trip to the Metro Centre or a pizza night at the Conference Centre, Sam supports the group to become more confident, comfortable and advocating individuals with skills they can use everyday.
You might not know this but Sam is a lover of all things Pigeons (we cannot confirm or deny that she has a very adorable pigeon calendar next to her desk) so if you fancy quizzing her on it, she's ready and raring to go.

Mark has always believed that the role of a trustee is a real privilege. Working 31 years as Police Officer and Assistant Chief Constable, Mark has seen first hand the importance of helping others and ultimately making a difference to those within our communities.
When not trusteeing, Mark uses his experiences as part of Adapt & Evolve Consultancy, helping organisations across the UK reduce sickness, improve performance and help staff retention. In his down time, he can often be seen running up the fells in the Eden Valley or brewing his very own Ale.

Before becoming a Trustee at People First, Mike got involved in our work by fundraising alongside his colleagues at Borderway Finance for their Keswick Three Peak challenge. From then onwards, Mike has been inspired and humbled by the work that is carried across all corners of People First and Healthwatch and in-turn, the support provided to people to live their best lives, whatever their circumstances.
Working 26 years in financial services has lead him to becoming Managing Director in 2016. Throughout this time he has always put customers at the heart of every decision.
