We are looking to recruit a personal assistant for a 4 year-old autistic child who is nonverbal. He also has a Severe Learning Disability diagnosis. He communicates primarily through gestures like hand leading, facial expressions, and sometimes sounds. He thrives on routine and predictability. He is a very loving, happy child.
Hours available are 6 hours per week in school holidays. Either 2 x 3 hour sessions or 3 x 2 hour sessions would be beneficial, but there will be flexibility within this.
We are looking for a patient, nurturing, and reliable person who understands autism and nonverbal communication. They should be comfortable working with a child who does not use spoken language and be open to learning how he communicates through gestures, expressions and behaviour.
Experience with sensory needs, autism, or early childhood education is a big plus, but more important is a calm demeanour, willingness to follow routines, and an ability to stay composed during meltdowns or moments of distress. He still requires personal care.
This child loves the outdoors and the PA should enjoy spending time outside, e.g. going for walks, playing in parks, or exploring nature safely. Someone who’s energetic but gentle, and who sees the outdoors as therapeutic and fun. He enjoys soft play, the beach, he is even happy just going out in the car and looking at different things.

· Background in care, early years, SEND or child development.
