Living Well With Diabetes

Adjusted Diabetes education for people with a Type 2 Diabetes and a Learning Disability.

This education programme is designed for people with a learning disability who have been recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. This course equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to actively manage their condition and improve long-term health outcomes.

Sessions will run at Carlisle and West Cumberland areas.

Sessions will begin Winter 2025.

You will learn about:

Understanding Type 2 diabetes, including its causes, consequences, and impact on overall health
Learn the importance of effective self-care, including engagement with healthcare teams, healthy eating, and regular physical activity
Explore strategies to maintain good mental health and develop strong support networks for sustainable diabetes management

This 6-week course covers:

Getting to know each other and understanding the course, implications on your health and self care
Understand Type 2 Diabetes, the importance of sugar, weight and personal health planning
Looking after your own health and the importance of Annual Health checks
Eating healthily to control your diabetes, the, weight and the positive impact it can bring
How exercise can really help in diabetes management
Keeping strong to maintain a healthy lifestyle and a long-term approach to managing Type 2 Diabetes.
