About Us

At People First, we provide independent advocacy and inclusive support to empower people across Cumbria and beyond. Our Carers Team offers free, friendly and practical support to unpaid carers, helping them access the information, guidance and resources they need to balance their caring role with their own wellbeing.

About the Role

As a Carer Support Co-ordinator, you will provide organised administrative and practical support to the Carers Volunteer Programme while contributing to the wider work of the Carers Team. You will help keep volunteer records and programme activity up to date, support communications and coordination, and assist Carer Support Co-ordinators to ensure unpaid carers receive a timely and consistent service.

An important part of the role will be completing scheduled review calls with unpaid carers, recording outcomes accurately, identifying follow-up actions and escalating any concerns in line with agreed procedures. You will also respond to routine enquiries, arrange appointments or activities, and provide general administrative support to the programme.

This is a hybrid role, combining home working with regular work from our Workington base. Travel across West Cumbria will be required when needed for meetings, volunteer activity, community engagement and service cover. Flexibility is important, as priorities and locations may change according to service needs.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience of administration, programme support, customer service, community support or a related role.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records, manage competing priorities and follow up agreed actions.
  • A warm, approachable and empathetic manner, with confidence speaking to unpaid carers and volunteers by telephone.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including confidence using email, digital systems and standard office software.
  • Ability to work independently from home and from the Workington base, while contributing effectively to a supportive team.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, data protection, safeguarding and professional boundaries.
  • Experience of supporting volunteers, carers or community programmes would be an advantage.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel across West Cumbria when required.

Why Join Us?

  • A varied role combining administration, volunteer support and direct contact with unpaid carers.
  • Hybrid working between home and our Workington base.
  • Training, induction and ongoing development opportunities.
  • A supportive, inclusive and values-led team environment.
  • The opportunity to strengthen the Carers Volunteer Programme and improve support across West Cumbria.

Requirements

An Enhanced DBS check will be required, and full induction and role-specific training will be provided. A driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential due to travel across West Cumbria. The postholder will need a suitable environment for home working and must be able to attend the Workington base regularly.
