We are a friendly and welcoming family looking for a kind, patient, and reliable Personal Assistant to support our 6-year-old son.

This is a rewarding role supporting a bright and energetic little boy who has a diagnosis of autism and learning disabilities and is currently awaiting assessment for ADHD. He is non-verbal but communicates in his own way by showing you what he would like and guiding you to things. Over time, you’ll build a great understanding of him and his needs.

He loves being out and about, especially going for drives, and enjoys an active routine. He can sometimes feel anxious in busy environments, so he needs someone calm, reassuring, and attentive by his side.

The role involves providing 1:1 support at all times, including some personal care as he is still in nappies. He also requires support with feeding as he us unable to use a fork/spoon.

You’ll spend time playing with him, supporting his routines, and helping him safely access activities both at home and out in the community. When out, he may use a mobility buggy for his safety, particularly near roads.

To begin with, a family member will be around to support you and help you get to know him and his routines. Over time, we hope the role will build towards you supporting him more independently, giving mum the chance to spend some time with his sibling.

We live in a rural area, so a full UK driving licence is essential. Any agreed travel expenses will be covered.

The role is for around 5 hours per week, with some flexibility. This will include evenings and weekends, agreed in advance.

Experience with children or additional needs is helpful but not essential — the right attitude and approach are most important.
