Trans Voices

Are you a trans or gender diverse person living in Cumberland?

Healthwatch Cumberland would like to know about your experience.

We know being trans is a different experience for each trans person and there is no one way to be trans. But we would like to know about your journey and the support you received, with a particular focus on health and social care.

We would like to find out about how you would describe the treatment you received from healthcare professionals. Did they respect your identity and the pronouns and name you use? Were you met with any prejudice for being trans?

Maybe you feel like there could be more events and support groups available to you?

We would also love to hear from friends and family members of trans and gender diverse people.

We would love to hear from you.

How can you get involved?

If you run a local peer support group and would like to be a part of a focus group or find out more about our project, email: [email protected]

If you feel like you want to tell us your story in a bit more depth, we can arrange to have a case study with you, either over the phone or in person, where we will have a friendly chat about your experiences. If you’re interested in doing a case study with us, please email: [email protected]

What can you gain from this experience?

We want to help amplify your voice. We know Cumberland can feel isolating but you’re not alone, there will be other trans people who have had a similar experience to you. We want to see how we can support trans people in Cumberland to have their say on the healthcare treatment they receive, and we would love to hear what you have to say.

What does Healthwatch Cumberland do?

We are an independent organisation that aims to champion your views on health and social care. We are not part of the NHS, but we support local people to take back control over their health through our projects and events.

Our Trans Voices comic book:

The Healthwatch Cumberland team co-created a comic with local artists, to convey stories from trans and gender diverse people living in Cumberland.
