Cumbria Confirm and Challenge group was established to improve care and reduce health inequalities for people with a learning disability and autistic people, and prevent people with a learning disability and autistic people from early deaths.
People First formed the Confirm and Challenge group to work with LeDeR in 2019. Over the years our group has included people with lived experience, parents/carers and professionals including hospice staff, bereavement counsellor and learning disability nurses.
We receive reviews of the deaths of people with learning difficulties. We look at these to highlight things that have been positive in their care and experience (Confirm) and things that have been negative or lacking (Challenge).
We feed back to Action from Learning and LeDeR governance groups, in the hope that good practice and areas for improvement are considered and implemented in the future. Some of our members also sit on the LeDeR Sign off Panel. As of 2022 LeDeR also reviews the deaths of autistic people.
