What is the Tier 1 of Oliver’s Training all about?

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Tier 1 is a starting point, building a basic understanding of learning disability and autism. It focuses on general awareness, helping people feel more confident communicating and supporting others day to day.

What happens in the Tier 1 of Oliver’s Training?

Tier 1 of the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is a short, awareness-based session that helps you build a basic understanding of learning disability and autism. It starts with a short e-learning module, followed by a one-hour interactive online session co-delivered by people with lived experience.

During the session, we'll explore key topics such as communication, reasonable adjustments and person-centred support, while also reflecting on your own attitudes and experiences.

The focus is on helping you feel more confident in everyday interactions and creating a more inclusive, respectful approach across the workplace.

Who is eligible to take part in Tier 1 of Oliver’s Training?

Anyone can take part in Tier 1 of Oliver’s Training, but it is mainly aimed at those who need a general awareness of learning disability and autism as part of their role.

We encourage everyone to take part, as it’s a valuable learning experience that goes beyond the workplace. It can help you better understand others, communicate more clearly, and approach everyday situations with more confidence, patience and, above all,  kindness.

How will the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Tier 1 help your team?

Tier 1 of Oliver’s Training helps your team build a strong foundation of understanding around learning disability and autism. It gives them the knowledge and confidence to communicate more effectively, recognise when someone might need support, and make simple, meaningful adjustments in everyday situations. It also encourages reflection on attitudes and behaviours, helping your team create a more respectful, inclusive approach throughout your workplace.
