A flying start with our Oliver McGowan training team

It's been an incredible start to the year for the People First Oliver McGowan training team. From January through April, we've been firing on all cylinders to ensure that Health and Social Care staff recieve the vital training they need to support people with a learning disability and autistic people.

Here's a look at what we've achieved in the first four months of 2026:

  • Gowing our capacity - To meet the high demand for this essential training, we've reccruited new trainers. Expanding our team means we can reach even more professionals, and is at the heart of care delievery across the region.
  • Connecting and developing - Our Lead Trainer Sam, headed down to London to attend the Community of Practice. This wasn't just a networking even; it was the chance to help shape the programme. By making national connections and sharing insights with other leads, we're ensuring our training remains at the cutting edge of best practices.

  • Confidence in action - One of the most rewarding parts of this quarter has been watching our trainers grow. By observing ad learning from the practice of otherrs, our team has seen a massive boost in confidence and delivery skills. We believe that when our trainers feel empowered, that energy translates directly into the classroom.
  • Impact in numbers - We've been busy in the training rooms. Between January and April, we successfully trainined almost 250 NHS Primary Care staff. These sessions spanned across Tier 1: Raising awareness and foundational understanding, and Tier 2: Deeper, interactive learning for those with direct health responsibilities training.

Looking ahead to our next quarter

We not slowing down! We are incredibly excited to keep this momentum going as we head into the rest of the year. With a bigger team and refined skills, we are ready to delivery lots more sessions for our partners across Health and Social Care.
