During 2021/2022 we were asked by NHS England to review Advocacy for people with learning disabilities and autistic people in mental health settings, in partnership with other advocacy groups Bringing us Together, the Challenging Behaviour Foundation and Speakup Self Advocacy and the National Development Team for Inclusion(NDTi) who coordinated the reporting. The review was commissioned by NHS England as part of their spending review mental health funding.
As part of the review we were asked to discover what was getting in the way of people receiving effective and timely independent advocacy, and identify the factors which assist advocacy to work well.
