A summer of engagement for Creating Careers in West Cumbria

Hi I'm Roseanne and I am a Creating Careers Job Coach out in West Cumbria.

And if I had to sum up Creating Careers summer out west it would be "Wow", what a summer of events! Creating Careers has been on tour, spreading the word and sharing our amazing project with secondary school students in West Cumbria. Firstly, we visited Mayfield School in Whitehaven for their ‘Life after Mayfield’ event, then we hit the road again and attended ‘The Quiet Festival of Work’ at Gen2. The excitement didn’t stop there however as we also attended ‘The festival of Work’ at Lakes College. Each event allowed students time to look around different stands, find out information and gain some inspiration for when the time comes to leaving school.

The conversations were incredible, and we had lots of eager students asking questions. We even set a challenge; ‘Can you bust the myths?’ Each person had to bust the myths by matching them to the facts.

Reflecting on my time there, and at the other events across the summer, was how the young people came across. Through each interaction, it was clear the excitement that they felt as they were opening their eyes to what’s next for them after they finish school including how Creating Careers could help them. It was inspiring to see this, and it made me feel very hopeful for the next generation

As we slowly head into the autumn months, the sharing of Creating Careers never stops as we’re readying for Lakes College Freshers Fair. I personally feel incredibly proud of the work we do within People First. Getting out and about within the community and talking about Creating Careers is just a bonus on top of what we get to do every day.
