We recently hosted our inaugural health and wellbeing event in the picturesque town of Appleby on March 18th. This event provided an excellent opportunity to unite community groups and organizations under one roof, showcasing the various services available to benefit the community.
As well as us, there was a great mix of organisations and community groups which included:
- Cumbria CVS
- Carer Support Carlisle and Eden
- The Energy Savings Trust
- Cumbria Police Community Team
- Westmorland and Furness Libraries
- The British Liver Trust and Hepatology Team
- GLL Better Leisure
- Eden Christians Against Poverty Debt Centre
- Eden Wellbeing Service
- Upper Eden Linking Lives
- BT Digital Voice
Lisa, our Senior Engagement Officer said:
“This is our first health and wellbeing event, we wanted to bring it to a rural community. It’s brilliant to have so many groups come together with one purpose, to offer advice and guidance to improve the health and wellbeing for people of Appleby and surrounding areas.
“We’ve learnt lots from this and hopefully we will be looking at expanding these into other areas of Westmorland and Furness.
“I’d like to thank the Appleby Hub and the partner organisations who helped make this event possible.”
- We heard lots of feedback from people on the day. Services highlighted to us included:
- The good work of the voluntary patient transport services within Appleby
- Long waiting times for neurological referrals
- Long waiting times for autism and ADHD assessments
- Feeling rushed and not being listened to at GP appointments.
Sophie, our Communications and Admin Coordinator, added:
“It was fantastic to see our first health and wellbeing event come together. It was a great opportunity to connect and share information, a huge thank you to everyone who attended. We’re so grateful for the conversations we had on the day, and we look forward to building on this for future events across Westmorland and Furness.”
Lisa and Sophie were joined by Leila, our Engagement Officer for Eden and South Lakes (who made some delicious biscuits for everyone), Michelle, our Volunteer Co-ordinator, and Charles, one of our valued volunteers.
