Counselling Support for Unpaid Adult Carers

At Cumberland Carers, we know how much strength, compassion, and resilience unpaid carers give every single day. Caring for a loved one can be deeply rewarding, but it can also feel overwhelming at times. That’s why we’re delighted to offer a dedicated counselling service designed to give carers the space, support, and listening ear they deserve.

What We’re Offering

Our counselling sessions are tailored to unpaid adult carers who may benefit from talking through their experiences in a safe, supportive environment.

Having a safe space to talk and share is at the heart of counselling. For many carers, the daily demands of looking after someone else can leave little room to process their own feelings. Counselling offers a confidential, non-judgmental environment where you can speak openly, knowing you’ll be listened to with empathy and respect. It’s a place to explore worries, celebrate strengths, and simply be yourself - without needing to carry the weight alone.

Here’s what’s currently available:

  • Phone Counselling
    • Thursdays, 60-minute sessions
    • 6-week block

How It Works

To make sure this service is right for you, we’ll ask two simple pre-screening questions before you begin. Please note:

  • The service isn’t suitable if you’ve had counselling or CBT therapy within the last two years.
  • You’ll need to commit to the full 8-week block (or 6 weeks for phone counselling).
  • There may be a short waiting list, but we’ll do our best to get you started as soon as possible.

Why Counselling?

Counselling offers a confidential space to talk openly about your feelings, challenges, and hopes. It can help you:

  • Feel heard and supported
  • Explore ways to manage stress and emotions
  • Build resilience for the future

Whether you prefer the convenience of phone sessions or the connection of in-person meetings, our counsellors are here to walk alongside you.

You’re Not Alone

Being a carer can sometimes feel isolating, but you don’t have to carry everything on your own. Our counselling service is here to support you - because your wellbeing matters too.

If you’d like to join the waiting list or learn more, please get in touch with our friendly team today by emailing [email protected] or calling 0300 303 8037.
