During Adult Safeguarding Week, we celebrate the essential role of Care Act Advocates in protecting the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of adults at risk. Their work ensures that individuals who may be vulnerable or facing challenges are not left unheard during critical safeguarding processes.
What is a Care Act Advocate?
Care Act Advocates step in when someone may struggle to engage with a local authority safeguarding enquiry. They ensure that the person’s voice is central, supporting them to express their wishes and concerns even in stressful or emotional circumstances. By doing so, advocates help people retain control over decisions that affect their lives.
Care Act Advocates also guide people through the often-complex safeguarding process. They explain what will happen at each stage, support participation in meetings, and ensure that decisions made are person-centred, lawful, and reflective of the individual’s preferences. This independent support is crucial in protecting adults from abuse or unfair treatment, while also promoting transparency, fairness, and accountability within safeguarding services.
Moreover, Care Act Advocates play a key role in raising awareness of individuals’ rights, helping to build confidence and resilience. Their presence reassures adults that they are not alone and that their safety and wellbeing are taken seriously.
This Adults Safeguarding Week, we recognise and thank Care Act Advocates for their dedication to empowering adults, safeguarding their rights, and placing dignity and respect at the heart of all safeguarding efforts. Their commitment ensures that every adult at risk can be heard, supported, and protected.
