We’re proud to announce the launch of a brand new menu, at the People First Conference Centre and Café at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, and it’s bursting with fresh flavours, comforting classics, and plenty of heart.
Both our sites sit at the heart of the community; with our Conference Centre based on Milbourne Street, a 5 minute walk from Tuille and Carlisle Cathedral, and our cafe situated at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care. Each of our sites are welcoming spaces used daily by community groups, professionals, and local organisations where its more than just sitting down for a brew and cake. Instead our spaces are places to connect and enjoy great food in great company.
But now it's even better.
Our new new menu has been shaped by our team of chefs with valuable feedback from our customers. We’ve listened to what you love, and introduced new choices to bring even more variety to your day, whether you’re here for a meeting, a training session, or just passing by.
You’ll find hearty artisan rolls, vibrant salads, to your fan favourites like the Cumberland sausage roll. For those with a sweet tooth, our freshly baked cakes are more tempting as ever with delights including Custard Cream Slice and luxury donuts (and we do mean L.UX.U.R.Y).
There’s also a focus on fresh, local ingredients, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available as well. Whatever your preference, there’s something on the menu to suit you.
Our café and Conference Centre is uniquely run by learners from the People First Academy, people with learning disabilities or who are autistic, gaining skills and experience in catering, customer service and hospitality.
Therefore every sandwich served, every coffee poured, is part of something much bigger: helping our learners build their confidence, take on responsibility, and work towards meaningful employment. It’s training in action and your visit makes a massive difference.

And if we can shine a bit of joy, goodness and send people off with happy bellies, then we're all for it.” says Luke, Conference Centre Manager. “I'm so proud of the team and what they’ve achieved with this new menu. Every item has been chosen with care, and every order supports someone’s journey into work. We can’t wait for people to come in and try it.”
We’re open Monday to Friday at the People First Cafe, just a short walk inside the Northern Centre for Cancer Care at the Cumberland Infirmary. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re grabbing lunch, catching up with friends, or simply fancy a decent brew.
