In 2021, People First launched a new and unique café based in the heart of Carlisle’s new Northern Centre for Cancer Care.
Serving locally sourced food and drink, The People First Café is run by local people with learning difficulties and provides a safe space to learn skills and access meaningful opportunities.
To celebrate the Cafe's launch, and to say a big thank you to our local NHS teams, the Cafe team and our learners worked together to produce delicious 'Thank You Boxes' for NHS staff.
Slices of cake, a biscuit or two, a tray bake, a scone. Each box was full to the brim with tasty food and included promotional items such as branded People First cups, and loyalty cards.
Through sounds of satisfaction and nods of nourishment, we received excellent feedback as well as high uptake. In total, our learners worked hard to put their culinary skills to the test to produce over 250 'Thank You Boxes'. Each box was handed to NHS staff from a range of departments at the Cumberland Infirmary.
Since opening the People First Cafe, our team have been made to feel very welcome at our location in the Northern Centre for Cancer Care. We are looking forward to the year ahead, continuing to provide nourishing meals for patients, staff and the public, and providing powerful training for our learners.
