We are aware of a further update regarding Autism (ASD) and ADHD assessment pathways provided by Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust.
What is happening now
We understand that the previously announced pause to ADHD and autism assessment pathways has been reversed.
This means:
- Referrals for Autism and ADHD assessments are being accepted.
- Assessments are continuing as they were prior to the original announcement.
- There are currently no immediate changes for children and young people already in the process.
We understand this arrangement will remain in place while longer-term plans are agreed.
What may happen next
We understand that the local Integrated Care Board (ICB) is reviewing the current assessment model and considering future commissioning arrangements.
By the end of February, one of the following may take place:
Option A:
Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust continues to deliver assessments under a revised agreement.
Option B:
An alternative NHS-commissioned provider (or providers) delivers the assessment service going forward.
We have been informed that:
- Children and young people will not lose their place in the process.
- Families will not need to restart referrals.
- Any transition between providers should not affect a child’s position on the waiting list.
We recognise that uncertainty around assessment pathways can be distressing for families who may already have been waiting a long time.
We want to hear from you
Behind every waiting list number is a child or young person and a family who may have already been waiting a long time.
If you or your child is affected by these changes, we would like to hear about your experience.
· Were you informed clearly about what this means for you?
· Do you understand what will happen next?
· How has this affected you or your family?
· What support do you need right now?
Your feedback helps us understand the impact locally and ensures decision-makers hear directly from families.
