Carer Support Co-ordinator
About Us
At People First, we provide independent advocacy and inclusive support to empower people across Cumbria and beyond. Our Carers Team offers free, friendly and practical support to unpaid carers, helping them access the information, guidance and resources they need to balance their caring role with their own wellbeing.
About the Role
As a Carer Support Co-ordinator, you will make a meaningful difference by supporting unpaid adult carers to understand their options, access services and feel less isolated. You will undertake carer assessments, provide emotional and practical support, signpost people to relevant organisations, and build positive relationships with carers, families, professionals and community partners.
A key part of this role will be providing visible and consistent cover in the Millom area. This will include local engagement activity, attending or supporting community opportunities such as coffee hubs or group sessions, and helping unpaid carers in and around Millom access timely support.
The postholder will also be expected to travel in and around Cumberland and surrounding areas. Flexibility is important, as the role may involve supporting different and multiple locations as service needs change.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in support work, community engagement, advocacy, advice, health and social care, or a related role.
- A warm, approachable and empathetic manner, with the ability to build trust with unpaid carers and partner organisations.
- Excellent communication, listening and organisational skills.
- Confidence to work independently in community settings as well as collaboratively within a supportive team.
- Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding and professional boundaries.
- Knowledge of carers rights, local services, health and social care would be an advantage.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel across Cumberland, with particular emphasis on Millom area cover and engagement activity.
Why Join Us?
- A rewarding role where your work directly supports unpaid carers and local communities.
- Training, induction and ongoing development opportunities.
- A supportive, inclusive and values-led team environment.
- The opportunity to build meaningful community links and contribute to responsive local carer support.
Requirements
An Enhanced DBS check will be required, and full induction training will be provided. A driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential due to the travel required across Cumberland.
