Posted on behalf of a family

We are looking for a reliable, friendly, caring person with experience of looking after children with additional needs, preferably autism, to provide support to a 12-year-old boy with autism.

Initially, the support would be provided at the family home with mum there, until he is comfortable to be left with the applicant. He is likely to get anxious or upset with this. He thrives on routine and is a homebird.

He loves anything football related so a good knowledge of this would help the successful applicant to relate to him more. He is a keen Carlisle United supporter and enjoys attending their matches.

He loves gaming especially FIFA games or Fortnite.

Duties will include help with personal care, making his meal and being with him for all of the shift.

He would benefit from support to better understand and express his thoughts, feelings, and emotions. He is looking for someone who can build a trusting relationship with him, encourage open communication, and help him develop the confidence to talk about how he is feeling in a supportive and patient way.

If he becomes ill, he can’t tell us how he feels so a basic first aid knowledge would be required.

Hours:

There are up to 4 hours per week available on an hourly rate of £14.50, however there is flexibility in the hours. Ideally, we are looking for 4 hours a week term time either Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday between 4pm and 8pm. Days can be suited to the applicant's needs. In school holidays extra hours are available, so a minimum of 6 hours per week would be required, preferably daytime. If the applicant wanted to work more hours in the school holidays this would be great.

All available hours would be on a weekday, so there would be no expectation for weekend working unless the applicant wanted to or there was an emergency.

Requirements:

A Full UK Driver’s license with the appropriate business insurance would be an advantage, as we live on the outskirts of Carlisle and there may be times when my son may want to go out.

The successful candidate must be willing to complete an Enhanced DBS check (fully funded by the Employer). Applicants who have a current DBS on the update service would be an advantage.
