Up in the hills around us the bellwether sheep go out ahead of their flocks testing the edges of their world, sounding warnings and finding new possibilities. But who are our bellwethers?
An unseen, unheard world emerges within the exhibition, through film and sound, poems and images. A world that is just a step away.
This exhibition is part of a project by local arts & social justice group, Zwiebelfish CIC. Over 100 local people affected by homelessness, substance recovery and other challenges - people from Barrow and people from Kendal - have worked together to exchange experiences and ideas through making art. Could they be the bellwethers for us all, sounding the warning of our wounded natural environment and of the millions of people in Britain who are struggling to survive?
Making poems, maps and images, creating sounds, these bellwether voices have entwined with wind and bird calls, drawing on nature to see life anew. A world steeped in ethereal soundscapes and fragile words, filmed through a dragonfly's 360º vision, a world mapped out in poetry. Come and immerse yourself in this powerful many-voiced statement of our times.
