Reflections of Learning Disability Week: By Lou, Trustee

Let us concentrate on what people can do, not what they can’t do. It’s too easy to see people with a learning disability and make assumptions. For example when asking someone's name; rather than asking the person themselves you’ll ask whoever they’re with.

I think a lot of people are frightened and embarrassed about getting it wrong. But, to continue the behaviour of not treating a person like any other is wrong. Treat people no matter their ability just like you would treat anyone else.

That’s why I think the work that I do is Trustee is very important because it shows that anyone regardless of ability can contribute to society in which ever way they able to.
