The Big Lunch brings millions of people together across the UK to share food and fun.
People are the key ingredient, and everyone was invited because great things happen when we meet and chat over a bite to eat.
The Big Lunch is an idea from the Eden Project, made possible by the National Lottery. Together, we’re encouraging people UK-wide to throw open their doors, and take to their streets, gardens and neighbourhoods to have fun and get to know their neighbours better!
People First hosted The Big Lunch in partnership with Cumbria CVS at the Conference Centre, Milbourne Street, Carlisle. An afternoon tea was sponsored by Caterite, the Lake District’s leading independent wholesale supplier, and the Centre For Learning contributed some delicious homemade treats!
The afternoon was full of fun, music and conversation. We saw people together from all ages and backgrounds –for a few glorious hours we stopped, shared food, sang, and laughed.
Throughout the day we had showings of the film When Waters Rise –a film about recent flooding in Carlisle and how the community needs each other, by Mark Costello.
The party was entertained by a fifteen piece Ukulele band, Ukes Akimbo. They played lots of fabulous songs – old and new.
The Big Lunch offered an olive branch to local communities, we welcomed new faces and caught up with friends of People First. The Conference Centre came to life and all had a fabulous time. The team are looking forward to next year, hopefully making The Big Lunch a tradition.
