This July we reached for the peaks

On Saturday 9th July, for the first time, People First had a team of hikers taking part in our Keswick Three Peaks Challenge.

Our team of 6, all from Borderway Finance Limited, trained super hard in the lead-up to the event. They used it as an opportunity to connect as a team and went out on lots of long group walks after work, to prepare for the big day.

The walk began bright and early in Keswick town centre, meeting with our Guides Matt and George, from Lakeland Mountain Guides.

We set off, following the Cumbrian Way out towards the first peak Catbells. The weather forecast looked good and as we reached Catbells the sun really started to shine. After pausing for a moment to take in the breathtaking views at the summit, the team then descended into the Borrowdale Valley before hitting the quiet trails towards Walla Crag, the second peak. After Walla Crag, and a quick pit stop for lunch including some delicious flapjack made by our learners at the Conference Centre, we went back through Keswick to start climbing the final peak, Latrigg.

The sense of achievement at the top of Latrigg was high and the entire team toasted the occasion with a small glass of something cold and fizzy!

Borderway Finance Limited had set themselves a target of raising £300 each and absolutely smashed their initial target, raising an incredible £2,560 for People First!

Natalie Bingham, Fundraising Officer said;

“This is the first time People First have held a fundraising event of this kind and the support we have received from Borderway Finance throughout has been utterly fantastic. They set themselves a target and worked hard to make sure they would achieve it. Their hours of training really paid off and they managed to complete the 18-mile hike in an impressive 9 hours, which was no easy challenge as the sun shone and the temperatures soared!

Thank you from everybody at People First for all your hard work, dedication and support. The money raised will go a long way to support more people with learning difficulties when they need it the most.”
