Youth Mental Health and family fun

In May, the Healthwatch Cumberland team were very busy attending some fabulous family fun events to chat to local people about their health and social care experiences, and to share information and resources around youth mental health and our project, R.I.S.E.

We launched our R.I.S.E project a few months ago and are about to start some exciting workshops in local youth groups around Carlisle. These workshops have been designed with an aim to build young people’s self-esteem, focusing on the letters of R.I.S.E: resilience, inspiration, self-worth and empowerment. Visit our project page to find out more: R.I.S.E Youth Mental Health project information.

On Sunday 17th May, the team went to Show and Tell in Bitts Park in Carlisle and had a great time speaking to members of the public about what we do and finding out what people think about youth mental health.

“We had a lot of people saying that a project like this is really needed. Youth Mental Health is not discussed enough and it’s great to be a part of a project that aims to provide some support. Lots of people took a R.I.S.E journal and we had quite a few people who were interested in our Trans Voices comic as well which was great. The weather was very windy, but it was a lovely opportunity to share our project work in person.”

On a very sunny Bank Holiday Monday, the team headed to Upperby Gala where we had a busy day sharing more about our Youth Mental Health project, and an upcoming Over 50s Cancer Event.

“Upperby Gala was such a great day. We handed out so many R.I.S.E journals that we ran out! There was a lovely mix of ages at this event, and so we had the chance to hear some feedback on local services around topics like appointment booking and vaccines, and we invited lots of people to our Over 50s Cancer Event on 4th June.”

The Gala was filled with activities and information from other local services. We even had the chance to catch up with the team from The Well Communities CIC.
